Habitat and Distribution
Philippines. Primary forests at elevations from near sea level to 1,200 metres elev.Description
Daemonorops ochrolepis is a large, climbing rattan palm, producing a cluster of vigorous stems, that climb into the surrounding vegetation. The stems, without leaf-sheaths, are up to 30 mm in diameter; with the sheaths they are up to 50 mm in diameter. Editing by edric.
Culture
In general, they are likely to grow best with their roots in the shade but with their stems able to grow up to the light. They are also likely to grow best in a humus-rich soil. Cold Hardiness Zone: 10b
Comments and Curiosities
Uses: The plant is harvested from the wild, for making furniture, baskets, bags, etc., both for home, industries, and local commercial use.
A vigorous, tall climbing rattan from lowland, and montane rainforests in the Philippines.
