SOCIETY INFORMATION

BACKGROUND

The International Croton Society is devoted to the education, propagation, research, and of course, the vibrant colors of this remarkably diverse plant to tropical and sub-tropical gardeners globally. Originally established in Florida, the Society is growing with memberships, meetings, sales, newsletters, calendars, and now this Wiki Web Site and future forum to help members communicate worldwide. Please support the Society by becoming a member simply by clicking the link above for an application.

MISSION STATEMENT OF THE CROTON SOCIETY

The Croton Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the introduction, propagation and distribution of new species, improved varieties, and sports of Croton (Codiaeum variegatum) plants. Through our meetings, seminars and field trips, we collect and share information regarding propagation techniques, growth characteristics, cold and salt tolerances, and other environmental requirements. The objectives of this Society are to promote interest through education, research and development of the plant Codiaeum vareigatum of the Euphorbia family (Croton).

The popularity of Crotons indoor and out is increasing at a phenomenal rate and the Croton Society is in a unique position to boost the current popularity. The individual collections of the Croton Society membership, if taken together as a whole, may contain more different varieties of Crotons than any other group in the world. Each new member brings with them their own skills and circle of contacts. With membership in the Society you can share in the experience and expertise, both horticultural and historical, and can benefit new members and the Croton-loving public.

Croton Society Members already benefit from access to this huge inventory and the depth of knowledge we each have in our gardens. The meetings and events expand our collections and contact with other Croton lovers. New ideas, knowledge and research on locating, propagation and distribution of Crotons, will not only enhance our experiences, but the experience of all who have an interest in Codiaeum Variegatum!

MEETINGS AND SALES

Latest Meeting - Saturday, June 20th, 2009

Another successful meeting and sale was held at TikiRick's fabulous garden in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. About 50 members enjoyed food, cold beverages, and a tour of over 100 cultivars of crotons. This was all followed by an auction of some very rare and unusual crotons. John Bender, Mosaic, Magnificent, Irene Kingsley, and Caribbean Star were a few of the over 100 donated crotons up for auction. Many of these came from members' collections and are not commonly seen. It was hot and humid (hey, it is summer in South Florida!), but everyone left with at least a smile. Most left with at least a new croton for their collections. There were many free cuttings given away just for attending. Please sign up and become a member of the International Croton Society so you don't miss another great meeting and auction! Aside, from meetings, all members also receive a quarterly newsletter and annual wall calendar. Don't delay!
