Habitat: Brazil (Bahia). Solitary trunk palm. Height up to 10m. The origin of the species name was not found. Lorenzi et al. , 2010, p. 358 state: "This species is a fertile natural hybrid between Syagrus vagans and Syagrus coronata, occurring in geographical regions where populations of both species overlap." Note: Houais, 2001, p.1865 in the entry matafome , spelled by him matafome states: " 1. Angios sarmentoso bush ... native of Brazil (EC MG, ES), with enormous tubers that becomes flour , cakes and porridge ... ". (Gilio Giacomozzi)

An interesting natural hybrid from northeastern Brazil between S. coronata and S. vagans that for once combines the best characteristics of both parents to create and attractive landscape palm. (RPS.com)
