Habitat and Distribution

Distribution in New Caledonia This species is known only to the central part of the mainland, the Mé Ori. Habitat: In undergrowth of dense forest. Substrate: On ground more or less profound areas of ultramafic substrate.

Description

Small palm tree with tufted stems repeated, high of 0.5 to 5 m. Leaves 3 to 4 long less than 20 cm, with 1-2 pinnae on each side more or less divided, dark green above, densely covered with peltate scales brown and membranous, with a petiole less than 1 cm long; sheath along an average of 15-16 cm, scaly red-orange or dark outside, pale yellow within. Phenology (flower): 4 to 5 leaves below inflorescence, long 20 - 25 cm, erect and radiant with about 12 branches, more or less covered with blackish scales and brilliant.Fruits: Spherical fruits less than 1cm in diameter., Black when ripe.
