Anyone who has been around palms for any length of time has probably come across the name of JD Andersen. The JD Andersen Nursery in Fallbrook, California has been a fixture for those searching out rare well grown palms for close to 20 years. Along with his wife Cindy, they have created a fabulous nursery and garden in California and for the last 6 years have duplicated the same dedication on the Big Island of Hawaii. Not only do they now sell and ship rare plants from the Big Island, they also offer a cozy vacation rental in the midst of palm paradise for anyone wishing a a tropical get-a-way at an affordable price.

Recently the Hawaii Island Palm Society (HIPS) toured this awesome garden, and presented the opportunity for Palmpedia to take some photos and start a Pictorial of Jerry and Cindy's Hawaiian Garden, a truly tropical paradise.

Located in Leilani Estates on the wet east side area of Puna, everything grows remarkably well and fast. With 150 inches of rain annually, along with the warm climate year round, not many places on Earth can claim a more ideal environment for a tropical garden. The following slide shows give the viewer an idea of the overall ambience of the Andersen's garden along with a taste of some of the rarer palms. A gallery will follow shortly with Hi-Res photos along with the names of these exotic palms and other rare plants in this wonderful garden.
