Ceroxylons are a genus of large to gigantic feather palms, native to the equatorial Andes mountains in Columbia, Ecuador, and Peru in South America.

All share the following characteristics: (a) single, wax-covered trunks, 60 - 200 feet (20 - 33 M) tall; (b) very long, waxen leaves with dozens of pinnae; (c) a relative intolerance of dry heat.

Ceroxylons, where adapted, are probably the tallest palms known. C. quinudense is up to 200 feet tall.

Outside their native habitat, Ceroxylons perform best in cool maritime climates like San Francisco, or Hobart, Tasmania.

Informants all advise that Ceroxylons refuse to grow in warm areas like Miami, dying the summer.
