Call me a traditionalist, or even old school, but I love Hymenocalis. Particularly when it is bloom. The short lasting, wonderfully and delicately scented pure white blooms just make me smile. It is truly a sign of summer. Just to be a little different, I chose the variegated form. These bulbs get baked by all day by the Key West sun, and also receive daily water and the foliage still looks pretty decent. Any other Hymenocalis lovers out there? hymenocalis 002.jpg

I confess - I never heard or them, nor have I seen one. But I am an instant fan. Now, if I can only find some.

Curious as to why the botanist named the genus hymen?
