The REAL Appendiculatum with no hint of anything but pure green, top and bottom of leaves.

The REAL Mother and Daughter with small pink spots and interrupted leaves. The more common variety is purely green on top, burgundy on the bottom and interrupted.

Rainbow Starlite or Mrs. C.O. Liller - long narrow uninterrupted leaves with tiny rose colored spots

and finally Cutler's Giant from Ann Hayward's garden. This is a huge, purely green oak leaf.

Here is another ugly.

Those are some real beaut's! But I agree, some of these need to be saved for prosperity. Yuletide is another one, it's pretty rare to find in collections, but not the prettiest.

Hmmmm, I don't find the Appendiculatum "complex" ugly at all. I am a sucker for the interrupted leaves.

Yuletide - is not "an ugly" in my opinion either. Sure there are alot of more striking looking cultivars, A well grown Yuletide is deserving of a space. Especially in an area that others struggle, it seems pretty tough and resilent.

Remember - its all in the eye of the beholder.

Here is a shot of a weird leaf growing on Appendiculatum.
