No Idea

Here again are pics of the Crotons I find interesting. I am posting assorted random pics of the plants. The leaves are all over the place in shape, size and at this time colors. All leaves have a common red color on the backside. I agree with Ricky that it may be to early for a ID, but I really like names for my plants.

a few more pics.. I always find these plants mixed in with 100s of G. Superbum. Leaf stems have the G.Superbum look.

 

Scott, that (posts 1-4) looks a whole lot like some plants that showed up in a mixed batch at Lowes over here a few months ago - the same plants I was calling big uglies in another thread recently.
I think they are Mammy sports that got propagated with the regular Mammys - I say this because I found one that was growing off the side of a big Mammy stem.
I bought one also - I want to plant it out in the yard next spring just to see what it does...

 

Peyton, Here is a pic then and same plant now. There is hope for them.

 

Peyton, I think these are from the same stock as your "NOID". I have a few leaves on my newest purchased plants that look like your "NOID". I hope in time they will look like the "NOID". The leaf stem looks the same as your "NOID". Do you also have red leaf underside color? BTW I like the "NOID" name you gave it.

 

That's exactly what I was thinking...
In fact, some of the lower leaves on my NOID are just like some of the solid-green leaves on your plant, and yes all the leaves are red on the backside.
In my earlier post on this NOID I speculated that it may be a Mammy sport, and now that I look a little closer the stems and petioles are almost identical to Mammy...
I have a second large pot of this same plant but without the nice red veins, and as of now I plan on planting them both out in the ground this spring to let em grow and see what they look like by the fall, as just about everything grows better in the ground than in pots...
I'll probably plant my big Mammy in the ground too - seems like I remember reading somewhere that crotons sport better in the ground than in pots...
In fact, I intend to put most of my crotons in the ground next year and overwinter most of them outside by covering them during freezing weather.

P.S. NOID isn't really a name, but rather a temporary designation with a number as in NOID #3, for NO IDentification #3, but who knows, in the World of Crotons it may catch on and stick ;-)
