How to Propagate Cordylines (Ti plants)

These are such great plants. Give them to all your friends who think plants are hard to grow. Once they see their "babies" multiplying they are much more apt to catch the bug. And the reverse is also true. When they try plants that are difficult or impossible to keep alive, that is a sure way for them to lose interest.
 
Anyone ever have a log sprout leaves before roots? I have one at the moment that has about half an inch of a leaf emerging from the top of the log and another leaf becoming visible on the other side and all there is in the way of roots is one barely visible little white bump. It's quite fascinating, I dunno how it's been able to draw up enough water for that much leaf production.
 
I have seen it happen a few times and I have also seen really good root growth put out and not getting leaves until months later.
