Thanks for dropping by and checking us out. Please register, post a reply, and say hello. Try your hand at posting some photos. You can upload up to 4 at a time. The software will automatically resize for you, and display the thumbnails like they appear below. It may take up to a minute to upload and resize 4 large photos at a time. These are some random shots from Jerry Andersen's beautiful Big Island garden.

Don't forget to visit the Palmpedia Home Page (tab at upper right). Outstanding photos uploaded here can be integrated into Palmpedia's Garden Pictorials or the individual Species Pages.

    Thanks Luis,
Glad you found your way. There's still a lot of little things to take care of.
BTW --- Are you anywhere close to where the IPS is going to be when in Costa Rica? If at all possible I would really like to meet you and your brother. If you guys have time, I'll buy you a lunch or a dinner. :)

    Daryl,
    Thanks for dropping by
Yes, it's been a chore, and there are still apparently some kinks to work out. I am glad you were able to register without problems.
BTW --- If you didn't notice, uploading pics to the forum is greatly simplified. You can do 4 at a time, and the software will automatically resize to the acceptable size of under 500 MB, and 1024 x 768. So any of your excellent photography would be very welcome. We can then move them over to the "Encyclopedia" (wiki) if they will fit with a particular species or article. Of course higher resolution pics can still be uploaded directly to the Palmpedia Wiki.
    Aloha

Aloha Dean, I like this site.
Over time, I hope to provide my experience growing tropical palms in conditions that would otherwise kill them. Though conditions vary across the globe the eastcoast of Australia is unique. One only needs to experience the weather systems over the last 25 years as I have. Port Macquarie is at the ribicon in many respects.

    Go crazy Guys.

And don't be afraid to play around on the wiki part of the site. Click on "Home" in upper right hand corner. Try adding some pics or info to one of the individual species pages, or start a pictorial of your own garden. It's a little tricky at first, but don't worry about messing up, everything can be easily fixed.

    Dean,

I signed on only a few weeks ago. It's a nice site to come to as I check in almost everyday, even if I have nothing much to say. I wish a few others would join, the more the merrier.

Thanks guys. If everyone contributes a little here, and a little there, maybe we can build up some momentum.

  29. Dypsisdean,

Im from Costa Rica, and find this site just amazing. The reason I joined is those pictures from Hawaiian gardens, much like the vegetation from around here.I still have to look around the site more, so much to see.

    hello Jose

Do you have some pictures to share from Costa Rica? Your yard maybe.

  31. Toko,

My yard is just a jumble of pots and plants, and when there is no more space, I take some to my farm, a few kilometers away, and plant them in soil,.... happy plants, finally free!

But nature itself is so full of amazing plants, even more interesting than what I got in my yard.

This is a Carludovica palmatum, Panama hat palm, this is the fruit;it s not a palm, but belongs to the Cyclantacea.

Grows all over here. The flowers are something special, like spagettis, when they bloom I ll take some pictures.

    Saludos

I noticed quite a few different Cyclantheas when there. You are right Jose Maria, Costa Rica has flora and fauna like few other locations on Earth.

    Burgal, Bienvenidos otra vez.

As you already discovered, your English is much better than my Spanish. Please don't let that stop you. Photos have no language. :D

    Matt,

It's nice to have you here. And since you obviously take good pics and know how to post them, help us get some more action here. In addition, full size high quality pics of rare palms, or exceptional shots of others are always appreciated for the Online Encyclopedia part of Palmpedia. There is a video pictorial on how to upload pics to the Encyclopedia HERE

    John,

It's nice to have someone on board who is not afraid to play around with the computer. Feel free to add photos, descriptions, correct things you see, etc.

You should be able to understand how it works easily. On any wiki page just click the edit tab to see the syntax that makes the page.

Feel free to make your own page if you like and showcase your operation, and link to your site, or whatever. The nice thing about the wiki is you can edit, add, or do anything you wish on the fly without messing with the server or html.

I would like to get the Personal Pages feature going. It could be like a palm FaceBook showing your palms, trips, nursery, etc.
