I put this 14"air layer on Diane for a friend some weeks ago, roots now coming out of bottom of the plastic wrap. With Diane being such a large leaf Croton and a new flush of leaves now emerging should I wait longer to remove it?

For the really big ones like this, I usually wait until there's a lot more roots - almost a small fist size mass of roots. Keeping the root mass dark may also help; sem to recall something about roots not liking light.

I heard the same regarding light. I use HD foil & wait until it feels hard from roots if possible.

I would say yes Scott. I would wait another week or so to make sure it has rooted well and plant it in peat moss with pearlite. Put in shade and keep moist

I don't like to take them before I see new stems growing below the air layer. image.jpg

Buried somewhere in this site is a tutorial on air layering. Found these old pics of some air layers ready to get potted up. Those are 4" wide boards for scale, and one of the pics is a big leaf Col Gilbert Cutler.

Thanks guys! I covered the clear wrap with foil and will wait a few more weeks before removing.

Hello, just wanted to see how the airlayers came out? I have had a banner year more than I know what to do with.
