14th Annual Fall Plant Extravaganza!
October 5th, 6th 7th – 12th, 13th 14th 2012

I have the first draft of the Palm & Cycad list for the Fall Extravaganza. It is almost complete, as I would say about 85% when it comes to the species and sizes. As I come across new additions I would post them here.

The ever anticipated Croton list will be ready sometime after Saturday, probably Sunday or Monday. That list should be mostly finalized when Jeff hands it to me, but like usual some things might be added over the next week, leading up to the sale. I will try to post them here as they are added.

I received the first main draft of the Croton list at the end of today and just finished processing it. It was assumed to be a light list, but actually broke the current record of number of cultivars at a single 'Ganza sale, at 174 (atm). I had to add 25 new names to my main list. That number could change of course, as it often does.

The spelling of the names are correct to the best of my knowledge, but if you see a discrepancy, post it. I would like the names to be as correct as possible for the printed sale list. If Jeff finds any more cultivars to add, I will try and post them here to keep the list up to date.

Some really nice ones I'm putting out, so come early! Monarch, L.M. Rutherford, Super Petra, Yellow Duncan Macaw, Thomas Hitchcock, Rose Charmer, Rapture, Cutler #34, Cornelius, Claude Lorraine and Colonel Bob Bullock are really looking sweet, and just one of each.

Oh this is just great. Now the panic is starting to set in. I can't get there till Saturday! To all my croton buddies, pals o' mine, etc., etc., PLEASE leave some for those of us who can't be there on Friday :D Looking forward to seeing you Saturday in the Rainforest Collection shade house!

There should be plenty still left on saturday that in my opinion, very worthy of collecting. I just wouldn't get your hopes up to much if your after the Monarch, LM Rutherford, Super Petra, and the Claude, ok the rest of them too. LOL! There's some talk of "new blood" showing up to get in on some of the action.

Ryan has been instructed to bring his tazer gun, just in case.....

As long as the Tazer is aimed at Tiki

Chris (pocomo) and da Moose will be there with our wish lists bright and early ! :p

Leslie (bahadawn) - you need to schedule your sick days the first Friday every October. You will never see such a selection of available cultivars like this. The croton dash is also an adventure. There are sometimes some gems that never make it to the list ...

I'm hoping to next year....

In the meantime - you guys have fun and be careful out there! I'll be there tomorrow for the leftovers. ;-)

I'm so sad. I had wanted to pick up an Attalea Cohune, but I haven't been able to arrange transport for a specimen that large. Grrrr.

Matthew - I only saw that big fat one. What were you driving? Couldn't fold down the passenger seat and lean it all the way to the back?

That was a perfect size as the are so slow for many years. At that size the really start to move once they get into the ground. All the biggins seem slow because much energy is expended towards developing a trunk base ...

where was the Moose this morning ? There were folks with U Haul trucks running to fill them up !

Mike - Because multiple delaying variables, Chris & I did not get there until mid morning. It was a very relaxing and enjoyable day. Croton seekers kept meandering in all day. It was fun talking crotons, giving suggestions and tips to make them look there best. It got a liitle busy in the afternoon as many plant enthusiasts left work early to hit the sale.

Jeff has an incredible selection. There are plenty of collectibles still available for those heading there this morning!

Off the top of my head - these remaining collectible cultivars won't be there in a couple of hours ...

Once again, it was so difficult to choose from all the beautiful cultivars made available by Jeff. My sister picked up the Louis Dupuy and a King of Siam. I got Pop's Yard, Ortegas, Pride of Winter Haven, Dr. Frank Brown, Dreer #7, Lt. Paget, Robert Lavalois, Madame Fernand Kohl, Mrs. Snyder's Disraeli, and Duncan Macaw. Plus, we both came away with some other non-croton type plants... It is absolutely a very fun time. But, next year, I'm showing up on Friday! I have to be part of the famed croton dash. Lots of thanks to Judy Glock and Ray from Tampa for giving all their sage croton growing advice.

I just came back and picked up a few myself including a lovely Confetti ( I have been looking for this one for a while) .I will probably head back again next weekend to pick up a few more.

Jeff has such awesome crotons and Judy, Moose, and Ray's advice and expertise is 2nd to none. Sure wish I could have made it this go 'round. Until next time - enjoy and buy some of those fantastically grown crotons (and palms).

Best ~

Rich

The last Thomas Hitchcock was available until after lunch on Saturday. Jeff's plants looked better than ever due to no winter last year and plentiful rain. The remaining selection for next weekend will still provide people with instant collections.
