I finally planted my all green croton in the ground. Its got a good color to it. Not what you expect from a croton. But, what the heck?!? How many people can say they have an all green croton. This is a sport off another one of my plants. It rooted really well and seems to be a fast grower.

It may color up if the light is right and you keep it well fed. It has color is in there somewhere.

Recall that not all sports are desirable sports - esp. the all green ones. Mine get a quick trip to the trash can on the theory that if the sport is not as least as colorful as the parent, then it's wasting space and energy. Lots of green and yellow crotons out there for a background. I get all the green from palms - and got scheffeleras out of my system a long time ago.

Here's four green ones that I've let grow based solely on leaf-shape. The first one has a Kentucky-shaped leaf and the occasional yellow dot. No surprise, there's a real Kentucky eight feet away from it. The second one is a named variety called "Fiesta". It has a bit of yellow, a lot if you put it in the sun, but here it gets very little direct sunlight. Number three sprouted up underneath a huge mass of "Yellow Banana". There's a bit of yellow, but not much. Right below it are three more seedlings that have grown in the past year. Last shot is a very old one - almost 10 years - and I think the first seedling that popped in the garden. It's shaped like "Fred Sanders", which never holds much color either, but it's over five feet tall.

Here's what happens to ugly green sports. This one took over the parent plant which is still trying to recover from winter (not the colorful one to the left). trash day is tomorrow.

dude, don't throw it away, at least use it as mulch, or compost.
