    School me on Thai Crotons

Hey thank you. I did search, but nothing came up on the first page. I went a few pages deeper just now and saw some good stuff. It's actually a lot harder to find them for sale at nurseries. Are there any very popular cultivars I should be asking for?

    School me on Thai Crotons

A nursery in my town has thai crotons. They look different than the landscaping crotons I'm used to, they're more pastel in color and only get a few feet tall. Apparently they're good for indoor, and can't take much sun. I tried asking for more info but the nursery couldn't give me any. Are...

    Bromeliads and Mosquitos

Aedes mosquitoes (zika carrying species) do not frequently breed in bromeliads. They need a larger area. Bromeliads can host smaller types of non-disease carrying mosquitoes.

    Leaf Dropping

Thank you for all the responses. So it's not overwatering? I have access to lots of coffee grounds. That should lower the ph and add nitrogen. I'm on it!

    Leaf Dropping

Could this be a result of overwatering? The area stays pretty damp, and get splash from the grass irritation near by that runs 3 times a week.

    Leaf Dropping

Hi everyone. I plated a number of small Mrs. Iceton's into the ground a couple months ago. It seems about half them have dropped many leaves and look like skeletons of their former selves. I'm trying to figure this out what caused this. Next to the skeletons are some that still look full and...

    A Different Cordyline

I still want to try. There's a number of other australis hybrids that could perform differently. Maybe with a much more sandy soil?

    A Different Cordyline

Any updates on this plant? Is it still doing well. I'm very interested in growing Australis hybrids in florida, no one else seems to be doing it.

    Landscaping with Bromeliads

Here's another example I just finished, in a more shady area. For foliage there's Mrs. Iceton Crotons for a hedge, more red sisters with some auntie lou's mixed in for tii plants. The ground cover is mondo grass and dwarf mondo grass. The smaller bromeliads with the flower stalk are aechmea...

    My andropolis skinneri is blooming!

Very large plant, probably about 5 years old. It was here when I bought the property and I just noticed it's starting to grow a flower stalk. It's pretty cool!

Desperately searching for cordyline australis hybrids in south florida

It seems no one in all of florida carries any of those colorful cordyline australis hybrids like "Shocking Pink" and "Cardinal" and "Charlie Boy" They seem to be everywhere in california, I'm curious why there's none around here. I basically need something the size of a dracena marginata but...

Dypsis perrieri & Neorigilia Carcharodon var. 'Rainbow'

I just picked up a handful of Carcharodon Rainbow. I havn't even had time to pot them yet. They're quickly becoming one of my favorite bromeliads. They're not very common, very few places sell them. I got mine from a collector. When you say Carcharodon tiger rainbow that confuses me...

    Feeding Your Bromeliads

I would also advise caution using uncomposted banana peels as fertilizer. Although you're correct they're high in nutrients they're also high in etylene. Etylene is a plant hormone that stimulates them to flower. Putting too much banana peels into your bromeliad soil will not only attract...

    Feeding Your Bromeliads

I don't use any chemical ferts on mine. I put kelp meal and alfalfa meal in the soil mix. They really seem to like the decomposing organic matter that is high in potassium. I occasionally spray with a low dilution of organic blackstrap molasses and kelp liquid.

    Landscaping with Bromeliads

My nursery is in Bonita Springs. My green houses are 25,000sf combined, but they're only about 1/3rd full right now. I'm working hard to fill them up. The place was very run down when I bought it so it's been a lot of work getting it up and running again.

    Bromeliads and Mosquitos

I had lots of little brown mosquitos here at my nursery. The solution is quite simple. BTI is a harmless bacteria you can treat you plants with once a month and it prevents the larvae from growing. It's the same as mosquito dunks, but I buy it in grain form in 50lb bags. ALso treating with...
