Purchased a cutting back in July as a novelty plant and try my hand growing my own tea. Nice surprise with the flowers I had no idea.

Don't know much about this one, nor do I drink tea. We have a wild plant here called Mamaki that is supposed to make a pretty good tea. I just googled it and was surprised to see how popular it is.

Let us know how yours turns out.

Camellia sinensis should grow well for you but don't expect good tea. Usually the long hot season produces a bitter tea. There are selections from lowland areas that will produce good tea in hot areas. There is a tea plantation somewhere in South Carolina, the only one in the US.

Charleston Tea Plantation is located on Wadmalow Island, about 30 min south of Charlestion SC.
