The Arizona Landscape

So, Are you really moving???
Every natural landscape has its own appeal. It is all beautiful. For some its the wild and woolly rainforest, and for others its the serene and tranquil desert.
I have a palm/plant nut friend who bought a second home the Borrego desert of SoCal. He had as much fun locating the rare plants, and creating a desert garden as he did putting together a first class palm garden on the coast.

Am I seeing Lake Havasu in one of those pictures??? Lived there for a number of years before moving back East. Thought about lying down behind the moving van rather than letting go of such a beautiful place. Half of that truck was loaded up with palms that I brought back with me!!!

Yes, you are seeing L.Havasu and London Bridge. Here are two more for you. Never thought of boating in the desert before.

Thanks for the pictures Scott. As Dean stated all natural landscapes have their beauty and characteristics. The one thing that is striking about Florida is that in many places there really is not much of a natural landscape any more. Just a lot of freeways, housing developmennts, strip malls, and people.

Scott, On one of my trips to Arizona, a local told me that Arizona had more boats registered than Florida or anywhere else in the U.S.. I found it hard to believe at the time but who knows.
And to Amazondk. Next time you come to Florida skip the coasts and go down the center of the state. It is not as beautiful as other places in the Country but there are some great natural sights to be seen in the rural areas inland. Some areas look like indiana with palms but if you look hard enough you might be pleased. The Everglades are great. And we can't forget the beaches. The hill country north of Ocala is nice as well. I hate to think that people not living here have the perception that FL. is just one big strip mall. That only accounts for about half of what you'll find here. Okay maybe sixty percent.
And to Amazondk. Next time you come to Florida skip the coasts and go down the center of the state. It is not as beautiful as other places in the Country but there are some great natural sights to be seen in the rural areas inland. Some areas look like indiana with palms but if you look hard enough you might be pleased. The Everglades are great. And we can't forget the beaches. The hill country north of Ocala is nice as well. I hate to think that people not living here have the perception that FL. is just one big strip mall. That only accounts for about half of what you'll find here. Okay maybe sixty percent.

For about 10 years straight, some guys and I would make the trek to Havasu for a Striped Bass fishing expedition, and a little gambling on the side up at Bullhead City.
It was a real treat to be flying up the river at the head of the lake, below whatever dam that is at Bullhead, as the sun was coming up and the desert colors in the surrounding mountains were all aglow. Then we would find a maze of tules off to the side and drift back into them. The silence was deafening, and even the splash of a frog in the distance was amplified. The only thing of man that was evident were the contrails in the "largest" sky I had ever seen. It was about as peaceful and "religious" a moment an atheist can experience.

One look out on Lake Havasu during Easter Break and you would have no more trouble believing that stat.

The last time I drove up through Florida was 3 years ago when I took my son for orientation at FSU. It was a quick trip from Fort Lauderdale and back in three days. But, it was enjoyable. Back in the early 80´s I used to work for a Spanish airline as a sales rep in Miami. During this time my territory covered from Miami to Jacksonville, Orlando, and over to Tampa. I did quite a bit of driving through the country at that time. But, did not stop to really enjoy things. During the years that I lived in Florida most was spent close to home in South Florida, especially my house in Fort Lauderdale. I still enjoy Fort Lauderdale a lot. In fact if I can I may even buy a townhouse there to have a US base point again. Things have gotten a bit more affordable lately. For me the 5 hour trip to Miami makes S. Florida the best place to have a US base. Plus it is closer to a few of my kids. Florida has a subtle beauty to appreaciate. But, for the most part it does not have the kind of natural beauty that just makes you sit back in awe. That is one thing that is overwhelming where I live now. Nature is incredibly dominant and at time overwhelms the senses.

What really impressed me with Havasu with regard to boating is that there were fuel pumps at every gas station with racing fuel for the speed boats.Justin,

And to Amazondk, I can't disagree with you there are a lot of places in the U.S. and the world that are much more beautiful than FL.. I still enjoy coming back to Florida after visiting other areas of the country or abroad. Of course if there weren't palms to come home to I'd be outta here in a heartbeat.

Luke, I like the serenity found out in Arizona and the rugged landscape. Escaping the humidity is a plus, but when I was out there I had a bottle of water in hand all the time. Throat gets dry fast but no sweat running in your eyes when you are outside.

My sister lives in Sierra Vista, in the far SE corner of AZ. I love it out there! If I didn't like FL I would have already moved to AZ.
Have you ever gone up to Lake Powell? It is north of Flagstaff along the UT border and east of the Grand Canyon. They damned the CO River there in the '60s and filled in Glen Canyon. My brother in law has a boat and we have gone there several times. Absolute incredible scenery, about the most incredible place I have ever been.

There is even some palms growing at the resort on the UT border
