    My most promising seedling

I have quite a few small plants from cuttings that have never grown much more than a foot in a couple of years. I've tried light but frequent applications of fertilizer, Epsom Salts, more water, less water. Nothing will get them to grow. I've removed 'Zanzibar' and couple of other thread leaf...

    Questions

There's a Salvia variety, Van Houtii. I'm pretty sure that's how the Salvia folks spell that name. In Hawaii, I've seen King of Siam sold under a couple of names...Queen of Siam, Paint splash. I swear folks just make up names here. It gets confusing

Which Crotons can take Heavy Sun?

So true...where I am it rarely gets above the 80's and is usually partly cloudy. Though we have no soil so when we go a few days without rain stuff totally starts to fry. I would assume my lack of heat is why so many of the Crotons I grow are horribly slow.

Which Crotons can take Heavy Sun?

Here on the east side of the Big Island of Hawaii (wet and never hot) I grow the following in at least half a day of sun: Reedii, Veitchii, Rams Head, Zanzibar, Excellente, Mrs. Iceton, Red Banana, Pappey, interruptum, Pie Crust, Queen of Siam, Bermuda Red, AFD 5 and 9, Batik, MacArthur, Rex...

Some interesting Thai crotons listed on Ebay.

@Dean...I'm still trying to get an answer from a humanoid at USDA if it's doable. In my former life I was an Aviculturist and imported birds from Europe so I know it's best to get answers from actual people in addition to following instructions on USDA website. I'm pretty our survival rates...

Some interesting Thai crotons listed on Ebay.

Im trying to bring in cuttings of 'Red Dragon' from Java. Importing can be done, but it isn't going to be easy. Can never seem to get a straight answer from USDA. Not sure it's worth the expense. I think you could buy Crotons from this person in Thailand but check and see what USDA requires...

    Where is the rain ???

That sounds like the rain we get here in Puna...my rain gauge is at 57" for the past 5 months...but the rain has stopped. When we have dry periods here everything turns brown really fast due to our "soil" being lava. I live on catchment as well so a drought here reeeeeally sucks!

    Poor Response

I'm definitely guilty of lurking...if anything, I'm jealous at the variety of Crotons you all have available. Once I get all my photos dumped into a file on my partners laptop, I'll do more photo posting. Right now I do everything from my iPad. I really appreciate all the great photos and enjoy...

    Queen Of Siam

Unfortunately I don't seem to be able to post photos from my iPad. At some point Ill post a link to our nursery that has all of our Croton varieties. My Whatever of Siam is much brighter and colorful...maybe it's all the fert I dump on them!
