Jeff, a couple of questions:

Is Tropical Feel a new name I should enter in the wiki? What about Showgirl?

What did you mean with Dreer $6. What should I name it in the wiki?
What about Cutler #34? Name please?

Thanks! Ana:)

Very nice Jeff ... Your Father's Day is exceptional!

Dreer 7 - It was my understanding that what was thought to be Dreer 7 wasn't. Update please.

Cornelius - We definitely have a disagreement on this one. Evidently there is no written description on this
one....now what?

Thanks for all the kind comments!

Dreer #7 is something I'm confident on what it really is. It came out of an old neighborhood in NE Broward county and also was growing with Royal Horseguard, Gloriosa and a couple of others. To me, it matches up perfectly w/ the picture on page 54. Even with the old black and white picture in one of the old Exotica books. The leaf shape that is. Johnny S. thinks the picture is wrong, but I'm going with B. Frank on this one. He wrote the book, and I do realize there are a few mistakes in the book. And again.......if I can ever get Bob over to my yard, I feel he can clear some of these plants up.

Tropical Feel is something I found close to 15 years ago, and never propagated it much. Had several people look at it and nobody seems to have seen it. So I named it. If you have this and would like to add some info, I would love to hear it.

Show Girl is a legit plant, via from Bob Alonzo.

Dreer #6 is also a plant I have had for many years now, it grows extreamly slow, therefore not much to propagate off of. It matched up with a photo I once saw in Carol Graffs album. Can't remember where I first got mine.

Cutler #34 is a name that came with this plant many moons ago, have no idea from who either.

Cornelius, this a plant that originally came from Robert Halgrim's yard when I transplanted all of the crotons from there to here on my property. This is also the name that Bob A. put on it. SOOOOO, there is definitely two plants floating around under the same name. I will call Bob and see if he can clear this up. We need to! LOL!

Jeff and Jerry, re: Cornelius!

The croton Jerry posted was from me. I originally got this plant from Jeff, who told me this came from Bob Halgrim's yard and was ID' by Bob A. Crotons growing in the Keys seem to carry a lot more pink. Jeff, you have seen my plant many times. The veining and stems are very pink! Jerry's plant is in very good soil, is watered and fertilized frequently. It bears close resemblance to both Phil's and Marie's under different growing conditions!

Judy - I agree with you: same plant, different growing conditions. Without a scale for comparison, Jeff's plant looks like a large leaf plant to me since I'm used to looking a the ones in my yard. At least both plants originated in the Ft. Myers area - Jeff's from Mr. Halgrim's yard and mine from the Edison Estate.

Hey Jeff, that "Norwood Beauty" is really Exciter.

Satan is Irene Kingsley, come on man!!

Ray,

I'll be the first one to admit, I'm no expert on these two plants. All I know is, the Norwood Beauty plant came with the name from God knows who. I looked it up in the Wiki and low in behold, it matches up with Phil's plant. So are his wrong too? Exciter is not in the Wiki, so I can't compare it. Ray, you have to remember, under your northern, frigid, cold tundra conditions that you live in are going to produce plants with tiny leaves. As you move down the state, the sub-tropical conditions that we experience will produce not only larger, faster growing plants, but crotons with enormous leaves. Just saying ole buddy. Lol

Jeff,

The leaf size here in the tundra would surprise you. They are quite Keys-like. It's all in the amount of TLC (including cold protection) you give them.

You have Norwood Beauty in the garden but it's not the one you photographed. Phil's photo is of NB but yours is Exciter. Look at the two plants carefully and you'll see Exciter is a very distinct oak leaf with more veining and sharply pointed leaves. Norwood Beauty is a less distinct oak leaf (more variable) with rounded leaf tips. NB grows quickly and Exciter is much more slow. I can't believe there are those here that still doubt my eye. ;)

Ray,

I wrote down on paper the info you said about the two plants and went outside to have a look. Unfortunately, my plant labeled Norwood Beauty(not in the picture)is so pathetic looking I should remove it. It's been in the ground for probably 7 or 8 years and has NEVER grown, it's leaves are tiny and very few. The plant in the photo is also named NB. So, the bottom line is I can't compare the two and will change the name tag to Exciter. And like I said earlier, I really know very little about either one.
