Mine melted in the first of our two cold winters several years ago, but it was a cutting from Jesse Durko's Cardinal. There's a photo of that plant on page 42 of The Book. Jeff was selling a plant that he had marked Cardinal a couple years ago. I bought two of them but, as it turned out, neither one was Cardinal nor are they Pride of Winter Haven, although they look very similar.

Here's the plant I got from Jeff in the first three pictures. Notice how the new growth comes out with a red midvein. Also look at the size of the mature leaves. All of them are well over a foot long, not including the petiole. Next are two shots of Pride of Winter Haven. The midvein starts out white and eventually becomes red. The leaves are rarely over 10" long. Both of them get a few hours of direct sun, the first one in the late afternoon - setting sun, and the other midday, but only at this time of the year. The unknown is in shade most of the day. Dappled sun for a few hours at midday, which may account for the size of the leaves but not the prominent red midvein.

The picture in the Wiki that's marked Cardinal is Pride of Winter Haven. Cardinal has nothing but red, black, and green. No yellow, no orange, no pink.

..and here's two pics of the same plant; purchased at a Seare sale a year or two ago. Growing partial shade; not the most exciting corton in the yard....
