The Colors of Cordylines (The Ti Plant)

Angela,

There's only one name for this plant, and it's Miss Andrea. I've seen in the trade a couple of other names come and go. But the tissue culture lab that produces it calls it Miss Andrea. Unlike many other pinks, reds and even purples, it's easy to confuse one from another. But, there's only one plant that produces these browns, yellow and cream colors, and it's Miss Andrea. I know of no other cordyline that really even comes close to it in looks.
Okay folks, you heard it from the expert!!! :)

I still say they are not the same. I looked close and compared the two. C.Dancer older leaves change to sades of greens with cream and are a little more pointed. Miss Andrea holds the color on the older leaves.

Here are a few pics of what I have as Bolero. First 2 pics look like the Bolero I generally see for sale locally. The 3rd pic shows a lot more color in the leaves but was also purchased as Bolero. The Cordyline Society has no pic of Bolero to go by on their site. Anyone know what Bolero is suppose to look like?

I looked through "The Book" and found a plant called "Red Bolero" that looks like your last pic. To me that would indicate there may be a "White Bolero," and your question answered. Whether it's the right answer, I'm not sure - but makes sense.

Dean, Did a little net searching and found "Bolero bicolor" and "Bolero tricolor" listings. A few plant nurseries offer both, so maybe they are diffrent.

Bolero looks very similar to the one in post #55 but not so orange I think... "the book" shows one exactly like it but more pink but perhaps the color is off in the book... the pictures aren't so good.

Found this info: Bolero- Leaves compact, with broad olive green leaves, reddish veins, and featuring a magenta rose edge. Bolero bicolor- Foliage leaf is split coral pink and bronze, broad leaves.

I im loving this one more every week.

What's the difference between "Richard Button" and New Guinea Black????

LOL I have no idea. I searched the net for Richard Button Cordyline with no luck. Found Button Black and Black Button that look the same also. The New Guinea Black on the ICS site looks the same to me. This side of the world looks to use diffrent names for Cordylines at times.

Sport from White Baby Doll in pot. The second pic is side by side shot of parent and sport. White Baby Doll grew fast and leggy, but have had no luck rooting the thin stems.

Check out this Ti. I do not have any idea where I got it and has been around for a few years. It is showing some great colors now. Back of leaves are a nice pink. It may a seedling Ti. This is a single plant and when I have purchased plants I they have always had 3+ plants per pot. New growth in 5 pics last pic is of older leaf.
I have solved the mystery on this one. It is a cutting from Jackie. Pic 1 is Jackie from a couple years ago. Pics 2 and 3 show the same plant today with lost colors. Pic 4 the cutting today.

Everybody wants to have something different, especially those people who make a living selling stuff.

I imagine the seed collectors in Madagascar as follow:

They have a bag of D. malcomberi seed and contact the various interested parties in their Roll-a-dex, only to find out that everyone has too many D. malcomberi already. So they make a new tag for D. sp. 'iadonanoa' and place it on the bag. Then the following week the notice goes out, "Seeds of D. sp. 'iadonanoa' now being offered."

My neighbor cut down his Red Sister Tis today and I took the canes for rooting. Really did not need around 3 dz, but I will find a place for them in the spring. After getting them into a bucket of water for rooting I noticed one cane with a white edge.

We call that one "Ballerina" here. I think it is also is listed on the International Cordyline Society's site as Ballerina.

Angela, Is not Ballerina a small leaf Ti? I have always thought that what is sold here as White Baby Doll is really Ballerina. The Rising Sun is a large leaf Ti. Sherberti has purple/lav in new growth, Sherbet has a very light pink color to new growth. I will have what the ICS has as Sherbertii (2 i's) here in Scott Land soon. Looks like the Cordylines will take back Scott Land soon.

I've pretty much given up on names but here's some names for you...
the one on the left was sold as "Samoa" but looks suspiciously like "Pele's Smoke" but not exactly. I hope I wasn't a victim of renaming.... I know what we have and it looked different enough to buy it.
