A lot of these I have posted on other boards but thought I would share them with others who might not frequent the other palmtalk boards. I was inspired by all of Scotts photos here. Keep up the good work.

First photos is Butia X Syagrus seed. Around 1800 of them.
Second photo represents around 6000 Butia X Syagrus seed.
Sunglasses for scale.

Month of June and July collected over 20,000 seeds. On track to doing over 50,000. Hopefully doing over 20,000 hybrid seedlings.

Thankfully we have a seed cleaner otherwise we would have to hire someone to clean all of these seeds.

Thanks Eric,

Nice photos of some nice palms. Cool house in Post #21 too. :)

The advantage of posting photos here is that they will eventually end up in the Palm Encyclopedia for easy indexing and reference. I assume I have your permission to do so?

Thanks Dean,

The house in post #21 is a Buckminster Fuller geodesic dome. Quite fun to live in.

You are welcome to use any photos you like. They were all taken by me or Mark Lynn.

Erik, Have you done any work with Allagoptera arenaria pollen on Butia?

Erik, Have you done any work with Allagoptera arenaria pollen on Butia?

Scott,

I have not found a pollen source as of yet for that one. We would love to give it a try.
So far it has been
Butia X Jubaea
Butia X Syagrus coronata
Butia X Cocos N.
Butia X Parajubaea
Syagrus X Jubaea
Butyagrus X Jubaea

These crosses were all done in June and July. Some seeds are still on the trees. This is my first time on any of these so hopefully I get some germination.
Butia X Syagrus Botyophora pollen is on the way.

We have 35 Butia's to play with so we are having fun with it and seeing how many of the crosses we can do. Just to say we did it once. We have a steady source for the Parajubaea and the Jubaea pollen and may travel down south and try to hit a coconut with it.

Erik

Very nicely done Erik. Thanks again to Scott for detailing the technique and to you Erik - for all the pictorials on the results. That's quite and operation you have got there. I've got a Butia x S. coronata that's 4.5 years old that just went in the ground last week. It was a gift from a fellow mentor. I'd like to to have a go at a couple of your B x P & S x J.

Thanks,

Rich

Rich I will let you know when they are available. I believe Mike Evans still has quite a few Syagrus Coronatas left for sale in st. Pete.
