That's a new one for me Scott. We have so many Hibiscus here in Hawaii ( at least 50-75), but I haven't seen that one. Do you know if it's a new cultivar, or have I just missed it?

Dean, I have seen it around for a few years now. Have you seen this one? I think it is called Snow Queen.

I had (with 'had' being the operative word) a snow queen hibiscus. This past January torched it to the ground - with overhead mature queen palm "canopy". It was completely defoilated the prior winter and came back without any issues. Definitely not the most cold hardy of varieties - at least from what I have seen.

Here are a couple of pics of the Snow Queen in flower...

Here is a shot of the Fire and Ice in flower. The pink and red colors in the leaves have vanished over the summer.

If you look at the tag on my hibiscus, you can see that it was mislabeled. I have tried to find out what it is but haven't found it so far.
Scott, I read some where that if you fertilize fire and ice it loses some of it's color... ?

Thought I'd post some more.... this is the second time this one bloomed so I'm very happy!

Nice flower pictures Angela! I have to wait for temps to drop to get flowers again. The plants bud great, but drop before they open in our summer heat.

I love the large hybrid hibiscus but they never do well for me me. Our nematodes kill them quickly. I've tried to keep them potted to no avail. I'm down to one that is dying a slow death. I admire those in FL that can grow them flawlessly.

Bren, The large hybrids have never done well for me. I have tried many over the years and all have failed. Have you tried the Snow Queen or Fire and Ice? Snow Queen is over 15 yrs old and I have had Fire and Ice 5. Easy to root if you want me to root you some.

Thanks Scott but there is currently no room at the inn. Yep, I have tried all the standard varieties and yes, they did well...too well in fact where I took them out. I was having to trim them so often to keep them in check, I grew weary of them. I currently only have a double peach planted. went from a 3gal to almost 7' this year.

Bren, You are always welcome to come plant some plants in my yard. :D:D

I will remember you when my plants turn into little beasts in this small yard. I have a white dombeya branca that may have your name on it!

I keep trying to cross pollinate some hibiscus and everyone on the internet seems to have such an easy time of it. My plants keep having abortions... the pods will stay on for a while and then all of a sudden they fall off and break my heart LOL.

With cooler temps of Fall the Hibiscus now in full flower.

Sorry Scott, Missed this first time around. But no, I haven't seen that white variegated one either. BTW - did you get flowers yet on either of them?

Dean - never seen a 'Snow Queen' ? Wow, "Snow Queen' has been around a long long time. We sold at the nursery I worked at in the mid 1970's. Next door to me, there is a plant that is 50+ years old. :p

Besides nematodes, in South Florida there is a Hibiscus scale. I don't think the scale is in the Florida Keys however. The iguanas can't resist eating the flowers though. It is basically "iguana crack". They will also munch on crotons too. :(

Thanks Moose!
Have you seen the hibiscus thread on palmtalk? Len has a lot awesome ones... I wish I had a collection like his.
Here is the hibiscus a day later.

Nice pics Angela! I removed my Fire and Ice plant this weekend. I had planted it in a location that did not work for it. I have a rooted cutting from it to try in another area of the garden.

I bought this one the other day...

Another nice one Angela. I am going to have to stay away from this thread..... "I am not going to start a Hibiscus collection" (saying over and over in my head).

New blooms!! I've been buying a lot of hibiscus lately... I just bought these the other day!
Bon Temps and Bienevue.

I'm going to kill this one.
I love these so I just had to buy it but it probably won't survive.
