So today Jeff Searle and I drove around almost all of South Florida, stopping at 3 main secret locations. We saw numerous varieties of crotons, few rare, some common, and some that we had no idea what they were!! All in all it was a great day, we went home with some new varieties to us, and some well sought after varieties. Monday we are also going to a Top Secret location to meet someone new that had an amazing collection!

Attached are some photos of what we came home with, if you can identify any, please do!

Rob,

Thanks for putting some pictures. I'm really interested in knowing a name on the third one in group #2. It's the creamy yellow and green. The length is only about 6" long with wide shoulders. The closest thing I can think of is the yellow form of Sybil Griffen. But it's not, I don't think. Any sugestions?

We did go over to another hose on monday afternoon. The gentleman had an awesome collection, including Madame Fernand Kohl, Stoplight, Johanna Coppinger and many more I couldn't put a name on. I'll try to get some pictures up soon.

Jeff

Hi Jeff,
Re: the 3rd one in group 2-- I have a couple that look similar. One is Yellow Sybil Griffin; the other is a Coppinger Hyb. You may want Chris M. to take a look.
Marie

I got a yellow Sybil Griffin last year and although the leaf shape is about the same, the color and leaf texture look different. It defoliated during the winter but is coming back slowly.

Another great expidition is on the horizon, and I think you all are in for some great suprises! so far this year we have found Baron Le Compte, Madame Fernand Kohl, Vietchii, William Craig, Compte de Germini, and probably 2 dozen that we cant figure out what the heck they are!!!
Today, I believe I stumbled upon an 8ft Louis Doupey and some other mind blowing pastels!!!

Pictures will be here by weeks end! be ready!

Rob, Thanks for posting these pictures. Can't wait for the new pictures. So is Baron Le Compte rare?

first two pics are same plant, 3rd plant is a seperate one at same location as first two.

Last plant is an entirely different plant at an entirely different location

First, to me the third pic. looks close to Chief and could be, it just looks like it has a little too much pink. The last pic. is certainly different, and looks close to a Queen Victoria, but much better, so who knows. The first two are nice, and I just can't wait to see them in person on thusday afternoon.:) The first one could be a Louis Dupuy, but I just can't say for sure from a pic.

Good find....

Yes that's Exotica. If Exotica ended up with an orange ribbon #2, what plant won that contest??

The photo of the mystery plant is partially obstructed by a palm frond. Couldn't Jeff have jumped the fence and gotten a better photo?

Come one Searle, you cant always be the one going on these croton expeditions, otherwise people might start complaining its unfair I always take you.

Seems I have a talent for finding these things ;)

Rob, please make sure you get a photo of Jeff climbing the fence. You'll be filling Ryan's role here.

Bren, the plant Lee brought to Phil's as a distribution plant was a Bender plant called Dr. Alexander (not the oakleaf Dr. Alix). If Toby sees this, maybe he can post some photos of his plant on Pine Island.

So as to understand you Ray, the plant we got up at Phil's house, is called Dr. Alexander? If so, I want to attach the name with the plant. Thanks.....

Phil,

It's the Dr. Alexander plant that you and Toby have. I've seen it at your place a dozen times (in front of the Beccariophoenix?). At the meeting, I had no idea that's what it was but Lee mentioned that it was a plant Toby had on Pine Island.

Check this link from a thread last year
http://www.palmpedia.net/forum/showthread.php?t=966&highlight=Dr.+Alix

The plant is Dr. Alexander not Dr. Alix which is an entirely different plant. As you put it Phil, onward through the fog.
