Winter was bad, but come on show the E. Coast guys and gals that we have not given up. Share your Croton pictures! Lets get the talk going.

Ok, OK, here we go with some more pics taken this morning....

First three here shows what happens when the canopy disappears - almost everthing goes yellow, very yellow. That's a Sabal causiarum trunk. Most everything here defoliated during the winter.

What's up with that? Are our west coast friends even bothering to visit this forum?

Phil very impressive. The Coral Showers that I got at a meeting auction donated by you is doing quite well. This cultivar should be grown by more enthusiasts in my opinion. According to Frank Brown's first book, it had become a great rarity by 1960!

Two fine West Coast croton collections that made it through the winter and are thriving. Thank-you for sharing; The pictures are worth a thousand words.

I only have a handful of crotons but I think they're a fantastic complement to palms and boos. Here in Sarasota, I don't know of any good and reasonably priced sources for any other than the few the box stores carry. Please let me know if there's someone nearby I can get some from!

I grew up hating crotons because I only ever saw one large broad leafed one used in hedge plantings in beating sun, so they always looked sickly and dropped a lot of leaves. It wasn't until I got interested in palms that I started to appreciate crotons and their role in the garden. Now I love their color, texture, and array of leaf shapes--other than the broad leaf.

Gina,

That's great to hear. I'm constantly pushing to people that crotons add such a nice splash of color amongst the greens in the garden. You CANNOT beat them for creating that tropical feel when color is needed.
