This is one of the most beautiful palms I have seen. Palm literature limits it's range to Mediterrean climates but I recently saw a picture of a well grown specimen in St. Pete, Florida next to a equally well grown Coconut.

Al Bredeson in Kona, in a warm (not hot), drier by way of rain (not humidity), said he has had trouble with one. I'm wetter and cooler than Al and have one doing fine.

I think the info is sketchy on growing them in the tropics because the coco is so much easier, faster, and available. But it's proven to be a fairly hardy palm with some old specimens in SoCal.
