The AeAe banana (Musa paradisiaca) really took a beating. Gingers defoliated 50% and look like crap as well. :(

Where do you live again? Are you sure this is Coral Gables you're talking about? I guess this is an example of plants get acclimated to living in a nearly tropical climate and any hint of cold makes things ugly. Those same plants might be a little more hardened off if they were exposed to more cool/cold weather.

Ray - the gingers continue their decline. They usually get beatened down in the winter. It is an annual chore to prune them back. I think it was the heavy dry desicating wind that was the main culprit causing the damage to both bananas & gingers. :(
